OVERVIEW OF COOPERATIVISM IN BRAZIL: census, exports and billing

Cooperativism plays an important role in Brazilian economy, particularly in considering its universal principles of origin and evolution. Within this context, studies concentrated on quantitative analyses of cooperatives have become important. For this reason, this article aims to analyze the participation of cooperatives in the Brazilian economy. To achieve this aim, indicators for the census, billing and exports data on cooperativism were selected, and analysis of correlation between the variables included. According to the results obtained in 2007, exports reached US$3.30 billion and billing US$41.02 billion. Considering the leadership of agricultural cooperatives in exports, it is concluded that increased commodity prices developed opportunities for cooperatives.
